What is Reiki? Reiki(pronounced ray-kee) is a gentle, Japanese relaxation technique that promotes healing and well-being. It is a hands-on healing art where a practitioner uses universal life force or energy to help bring the body back into energetic balance. Reiki was discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1900s. |
Common Questions
Is Reiki a religion or do you have to subscribe to a certain belief system in order to be a Reiki practitioner?
Reiki is not a religion neither do you have to subscribe to a certain belief system in order to practise. It is based on the premise that there is a higher power, but it makes no attempt to define it. That is not to say that Reiki can not be used to enhance ones beliefs. It is my belief that Reiki is all about love and intent. Reiki is about sharing and healing. Reiki can be a journey unto itself. The more we share this healing, the closer we come to that Higher Power, what ever in your heart, you believe/conceive that to be.
How Does Reiki work?
What I teach in my classes is that Reiki is a practise of intention. As a practitioner, whether consciously or unconsciously, we intend the universal life force to be channelled to the individual we are treating and from the research that I have done, the greater the ability to focus on that intention, the more energy that is channelled. What modern medicine is finding out and what eastern medicine has known for thousands of years is that our bodies have an energy system running through out it. This energy system, whether because of stress or sickness, may get out of balance. It is our intention, through Reiki, to assist in bringing this energy system back into balance, thus reducing stress and aiding the immune system to do its job.
